You do not need a referral to make an appointment, however without a referral you will be unable to claim the medicare rebate. You will need to obtain a referral and a treatment plan (see below) from your GP before your first appointment if you want to make a claim.
Your GP will determine what type of referral best suits your needs:
1) Mental Health Treatment Plan: Provides access to up to ten rebated sessions per calendar year. Following the first six sessions, an appointment with your GP is needed to review the plan and determine whether a further four sessions are indicated.
2) Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan: Provides access to up to 40 rebated sessions in a 12 month period. A GP review is required every ten sessions to determine suitability for the next 10 rebated sessions. A further review with either a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician after the 20th session is needed to determine whether access to the second 20 sessions of the plan is clinically indicated.
Please email a copy of your GP referral letter and your treatment plan directly to alice.kesby@outlook.com prior to your first appointment.
